Στις ιδιωτικοποιήσεις περιφερειακών αεροδρομίων στην Ελλάδα εστιάζει η Handelsblatt
Σε ανταπόκριση από την Αθήνα η οικονομική επιθεώρηση Handelsblatt επισημαίνει ότι η ελληνική κυβέρνηση σύντομα θα αναζητήσει επενδυτές για άλλα 23 περιφερειακά αεροδρόμια και η γερμανική Fraport ενδιαφέρεται να επεκτείνει την παρουσία της στον τομέα αυτό. Η εφημερίδα υπενθυμίζει ότι από το 2017 οι Γερμανοί έχουν αναλάβει την αξιοποίηση 14 περιφερειακών αεροδρομίων στην Ελλάδα «για 40 χρόνια. Η Fraport έχει ήδη καταβάλει 1,24 δις ευρώ για την εισοδό της στην ελληνική αγορά, ενώ στα προηγούμενα τέσσερα χρόνια έχει επενδύσει 440 εκατομμύρια για νέα τέρμιναλς και αεροδιαδρόμους, καθώς και για έργα συντήρησης. Η Fraport ολοκλήρωσε το πρόγραμμα εκσυγχρονισμού τον Φεβρουάριο του 2021, τρεις μήνες πριν από την προβλεπόμενη ημερομηνία».
Σύμφωνα με την Handelsblatt η γερμανική εταιρία ενδιαφέρεται ιδιαιτέρως για το αεροδρόμιο της Καλαμάτας, καθώς «όχι μόνο είναι το μεγαλύτερο από εκείνα που παραμένουν υπό κρατικό έλεγχο, αλλά έχει και εξαιρετικές προοπτικές ανάπτυξης» λόγω του Costa Navarino. «Προκειμένου να ανταποκριθεί στην έκρηξη του τουρισμού (travel boom) που αναμένεται στην Ελλάδα μετά την πανδημία, το αεροδρόμιο θα πρέπει να επενδύσει 60 έως 80 εκατομμύρια ευρώ για την επέκταση του σημερινού τέρμιναλ και τη συντήρηση του αεροδιαδρόμου και του περιβάλλοντος χώρου, όπως αναφέρεται σε μελέτη του ελληνικού υπουργείου Μεταφορών. Το ποσό αυτό θα προέλθει από ιδιώτη επενδυτή».
Το επενδυτικό ενδιαφέρον πάντως για το αεροδρόμιο της Καλαμάτας ήδη αυξάνεται. Οι πληροφορίες αναφέρουν πως υπάρχει σοβαρό ενδιαφέρον της πλευράς Αχιλλέα Κωνσταντακόπουλου (Costa Navarino) και Ευτύχιου Βασιλάκη, βασικοί μέτοχοι και οι δύο της AEGEAN. Όπως σημειώνεται στο δημοσίευμα, το 2019, πριν τον κορονοϊό το Αεροδρόμιο Καλαμάτας κατέγραψε 336.000 επιβάτες, 20% αυξημένη κίνηση συγκριτικά με το 2018. Από τους επιβάτες αυτούς η πλειονότητα, οι 310.000 προέρχονταν από πτήσεις εξωτερικού.

"Kalamata has particularly good growth opportunities"
"With the upcoming award of further airport concessions, Fraport could round off its Greece portfolio. At the top of the privatization list is Kalamata. The announcement is expected in the next few weeks.
The airport is not only the largest of the state-operated places, it also has particularly good growth opportunities. It has to do with the man whose name he bears. The Greek tycoon Vassilis Constantakopoulos, who died in 2011, left his three sons with the Nasdaq-listed shipping company Costamare not only the world's third largest private fleet of container ships, but also the five-star golf and beach resort Costa Navarino in Greece.
The family of the “container king” has so far invested around 1.2 billion euros in the hotel and villa complex opened in 2010 on the Messinian coast. This made the region, which until then was mainly known for its Kalamata olives, one of the fastest growing holiday centers in Greece.
The tourism boom is also reflected in the number of passengers at Kalamata Airport. They quadrupled between 2010 and 2019. The real estate and hotel operating company Temes SA, controlled by the Constantakopoulos family, is considered to be a possible applicant for the airport concession, which is of particular importance for the further development of Costa Navarino.
Temes explains to the Handelsblatt: "We welcome the privatization of the airport, are observing the development very closely and expect interest from companies with experience in airport management." Industry observers conclude that Temes will apply for the concession together with a partner from the airport business .
But Fraport is also expressing interest in Kalamata. "We are basically pursuing the goal of expanding our international airport investment business by expanding our existing portfolio or acquiring new investments," the group informed the Handelsblatt at the request of the Handelsblatt.

The focus, however, is on “supporting the resurgence of tourist traffic and exploiting the existing growth potential of our airport portfolio,” Fraport announced. An entry into Kalamata could fit well into this strategy".
